The Malibu Surfing Assoc.'s MSA Classic Invitational is the United States' most prestigious club-level surfing contest and premier event in the Coalition of Surfing Clubs annual series. This invitational contest will be held at Surfrider Beach, Malibu from September 10/11, 2016. More than 200 invited athletes representing surfing clubs from around the world to compete at First Point, Malibu, one of surfing’s legendary waves.

In 2015, The Windansea Surf Club (WSC, La Jolla, CA) captured first place in the MSA Classic Invitational. The win was WSC's third team MSA Classic Inivtational crown in the past four years.

Said John Hinkle, MSA President, "...we congratulate our good friends of Windansea and thank them for their team's quality and spirit. We look forward to competing to have MSA's name on the Team Overall Award next year."

On Saturday, MSA welcomed the humanitarian orgzanization SurfAid International for the SurfAid Cup Malibu. Based on the enormous success of the SurfAid Cup events in Australia in Sydney and Margaret River, the sold out, tag-team SurfAid Cup Malibu fundraiser was blessed with good waves, world champions, and luminaries of the surfing community. Participants and supporters of the SurfAid Cup Malibu included: former professionals Damien Hobgood and Strider Wasilewski, big-wave surfing champion Greg Long, professional surfer and musician Donovan Frankenreiter, and local standout Frankie Harrer. An initial estimate tallied more than $110,000 raised toward building stronger communities in the Mentawai, Nias, Telos and Banyak Islands, off Sumatra, Indonesia.

Said Hinkle, "We deeply appreciate the great distances, sacrifices, and considerable expenses competitors assume when participating in the MSA Classic Invitational. We thank them -- as we thank our staff, guests, partners, and partner agencies. It's a privilege to produce this event."

Events during the 2016 MSA Classic Invitational are free of charge and open to the public. Early rounds begin Friday, September 6th and run through Sunday, September 8th.
