The Malibu Surfing Assoc.'s MSA Classic Invitational is the United States' most prestigious club-level surfing contest and premier event in the Coalition of Surfing Clubs annual series. This invitational contest will be held at Surfrider Beach, Malibu from September 9/10, 2017. More than 250 invited athletes representing surfing clubs from around the world to compete at First Point, Malibu, one of surfing's legendary waves.
The Malibu Surfing Association's annual surfing contest has a rich history, including: the formation of the venerable Windansea Surf Club to surf at Malibu (1962), the first local broadcast of a surfing event (1964), and Miki Dora's in-water fight with Johnny Fain (1967). More recently, the MSA Classic has become one of seven, top-tier contests hosted by California surfing clubs comprising the Coalition of Surfing Clubs (CSC) annual circuit. Proceeds from the MSA Classic help the Malibu Surfing Association make contributions to organizations such as: Heal the Bay, The Surfrider Foundation, and The Malibu Legacy Park Project. Keep-a Breast, Los Angeles County - W.A.T.E.R. Program.
